cherry jam and adrenaline rush

we've had cherries for lunch today at a rather ulu little village near the biggest lake here in hungary. n the cherries were verz interesting. there were 2 varieties: one was a deep dark maroon, while another was rather pinkish, with a yellowish tinge. turns out that the maroon was one extremely soft and squishy, with bloody flesh, and the pinkish one firmer, with a yellowish flesh. n then it dawned upon me that the maroon one tasted just like cherry jam, just without all that sugar! no wonder cherry jams don't really taste like cherries we have back home cuz it's made of squishy yummy cherries that can never be sent to singapore successfully. admittedly, both varieties have their strengths and flaws, and none is superior to the other; different doesn't mean worse.

anyway, there really isn't any highlight today. thanks to the poor tastes and bad choice by the mother hen of the gaggle. she's reallz quite horrid and obnoxious, and my mom and i feel rather miserable touring with them, with her at their helm. i suppose it's all just a difference in opinions, expectations and style, and it's not really all that bad. but do consider that we r on holiday, and our time and money are precious; i'd rather go home earlier to rest and slack for a few daya more than to waste my days here on crummy hungarian trains doing nothing. (well, money is a concern, but if we start getting overly concerned over it we wouldn't b travelling at all, would we?)

essentially, it's the waking up and setting off bloodily early in the morning, rushing all over the place like crazy, wasting hours travelling on crummy trains, only to accomplish nothing, visit nothing of significance, and return none the better - not anymore rested, learned, inspired nor happier. i say, if u wanna take things easy and relax, make sure u really feel rested; if u wanna rush, make sure u do it effectively and really make the most of ur time, like packing three days worth of sightseeing into one. and definitely not doing either half fucked, and not accomplishing anything with the maximum effort expanded. it's just plain stupid n frustrating.

i was so upset i couldn't resist but send whining smses just now in the afternoon!

in actual fact, we could have easily and comfortably shaved off 3 - 4 days from our trip, and b none the poorer in experiences and happiness. i'm just pretty pissed with all the time wasted for naught. anyway, to make good of things (no point crying over spilt milk and starting a vendetta with my mom's friends), we've decided to break off from them and do a longer and more fulfilling tour of austria. and so, it is with much excitement and anticipation, that i'll b completely revamping our austrian leg tonight, and confirming all the necessary adjustments and bookings all while still working on the current hungarian leg.

hens being hens. good riddance.

well, my mom n i did have our highlight (the haggle returned to the hotel to finish up the big bags of cup noodles they brought along on the trip). we had gone to one of their most famous cafes - gerbaud - for cake and coffee. and boy were the cakes delicious! i fear i would be getting so fat after the trip! (vienna has a few more such wonderful cafes too, and eating there would be more than a definite MUST :P)

just in case ur wondering wad's hungary famous for, the cafes highly recommend their doboz and esthenarzy cakes, along with their cafe speciality, would be invariably b a variation of the sacher chocolate cake. and tortes would b a slice of a round cake, while a szelet a cuboid of a rectangular one.

we've also strolled down a few famous boulevards and shopping streets, and hunted down a few good wine stores and compared prices. somehow i'm hooked to only buying local specialitz alcohol on this trip :P
