i've had my first shot of absinth today. and i got myself a bottle too! :D
absinth, btw, is a strong liquor that's banned in most countries due to its dangerous hallucinergic effects; people have been known to think they could fly and dropped off buildings. but it was a very popular drink, esp those in the creative industry of yesteryears, and many imminent literati wouldn't have made it without it. it's prepared in a very cool way, with a flaming cubed sugar n all - maybe that's y it's actually quite palatable, and even delicious, despite the 70% alcohol content.

we went to this little town nestled in the hills, cradled by a bend of the vltava river, in the south, near the austrian border. it is really very lovely, with the resident castle overlooking it. coincidentally, it is also a unesco world heritage site (n thus i've come to the belief that the unesco world heritage rating is actually quite reliable). the town is just so quaint and nice, with the cobbled streets, the baroque houese in colourful hues and the roofs and spires jutting out here and there, giving the whole panorama a very organic texture and a lively feel.
the section of the river is actually very nice to paddle, even if just round the bend; guide books recommend that pple take a 3 hour float downstream to end up at an abbey overlooking the town, and take a 20 min hike through the woods back. but once again, the hens r hydrophobic, physical-activity-aversed, and spoil sports through n through. n we didn't do anything fun of that sort. if it were up to me, i would have wanted to spend a night there. but of course, the hens just spoil everything.
o well. i suppose i can treat this trip as sort of a recce trip and always come back here again with a more appreciative company. czech really is a very nice place that grows onto u - u may perhaps just need some time to find the nice bits.
well, coming back to prague, i saw an iv drug abuser wash his needle&syringe in a grummy public toilet, fill the syringe with tap water (which is clean by international standards) and inject himself o_O i must admit, this is one of my first times coming so close to a iv drug abuser in real life in action. quite an harrowing experience.
interestingly, i saw this really cute and hot girl slipping a note into the hands of a tall (lanky) and rather cute guy of a stranger on the metro as she was getting off the train. sweet! ;) haha. the guy was all smiles after reading the note, and was losing no time getting out his hp to message away. wad carefree romanticism! i love this place! i must admit that czech does has its fair share of gorgeous looking pple, and there's always a few eye candies around the corner.
the shopkeeper selling the absinth warns that i should only drink absinth at home with my best friends, to b absolutely safe. n just think. it doesn't really get u drunk or high, i suppose. but it just makes u think, and creates wonders for u. maybe i just haven't had enough :P
